The anticipation surrounding The Game Awards was significant, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling image of a strange statue. The question has been revealed. Larian Studios is creating a completely new Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a daring trailer packed with intense imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal unleashing of hell.
A Different Direction
Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio stated ahead of time that a follow-up to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not on the cards right now.
That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This distinction hints that the team could be crafting a faster-paced experience instead of another tactical title. For now, we can only guess, as only a announcement clip is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it pioneered the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, player agency, and flexible progression—traits that subsequently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust bestowed upon the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with unique possibilities that are viable with a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.
The series is also wonderfully open-ended, enabling players to experiment in narrative and gameplay. Most missions can be approached in multiple ways, often in unexpected fashion.
- You might progress the story because you heeded something a dog told you.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by moving environmental hazards in a clever way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is these creative systems that have cemented the series to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, players can anticipate another adventure in this groundbreaking franchise.
